Regarding volunteering visa: I spoke with an Irish consulate representative very directly about Workaway. I was told specifically that it is legal (and to the discretion of immigration officers) to volunteer with workaway for under 3 months if there is no stipend. In my case, I am planning on workawaying with a for-profit business for cultural exchange. HOWEVER, if there is any stipend given (even just for living expenses), one MUST have a work visa.

I'm glad you liked it Rachel. Workaway and other volunteering platforms can open up a whole world of unique experiences to try. Usually far from the typical tourist path too :) Thanks for reading & your kind words!

In reply to <a href="https://maptrekking.com/workaway-ireland/#comment-230">Caitriona</a>.

Hey Caitriona, thank you for your kind words. I am glad to hear that you like this article, especially as an Irish person! I'm an American but have lived in Ireland for 1.5 years. I felt like it was my duty to let the Americans know that they shouldn't say they're Irish lol. It also bugs me when people say Ireland is in the UK haha. Most travel blogs would never say this stuff so I felt like I needed too. Thanks again for reading and leaving such nice feedback!

Hi, I'm Irish and I have to say everything you said was spot on :D A lot of people think that the whole of Ireland is part of the UK and it hurts me to hear that said. I know they don't mean anything by it. A lot of people from America also tell me they are Irish and I am thinking "not really..." :/ Superb article!
