In today’s age, it’s so easy to find discount codes to save money on products and services, but there isn’t a specific Workaway promo code.
It’s more like a referral or an invitation. So if you sign up to Workaway with my specific invite link, you’ll get an extra 3 months of free Workaway membership.
They offer memberships for 1 year which costs $44 as a single and $56 for a couple/friends account.
So for whichever account you sign up for means, you get 15 months of Workaway for the price of 12 months!

Workaway is the biggest and most well-known work exchange site, with over 50k volunteer opportunities all around the world.

Can I Get A Free Workaway Account?
One of the biggest questions that people ask is, is Workaway free? or why do I have to pay for Workaway?
This makes me think that there are a lot of travelers out there that would love to get a Workaway membership discount if not a completely free Workaway account.
Honestly, I would love it if they would offer a Workaway free trial so you can try it out before deciding if you want to commit to purchasing a whole year of membership.
That would be amazing, right?
Anyways – if you have a little bit of savings already, you can use Workaway to travel cheaply and make your travel money go a lot farther.
But if you want to take it further and get a completely free Workaway account, you kind of can – but it will take a lot of effort.
2 Ways To Get A Workaway Discount
There are currently 2 ways to get some amount of a free workaway membership.
Currently, there’s no way to get free Workaway without making at least one membership purchase. Let me explain further.
Use My Workaway Promo Code Link
As I briefly explained at the beginning of the article, there isn’t a particular Workaway discount code or Workaway promo code that you can type in.
You have to click on my special invite link to purchase 1 year of Workaway membership as either a single account ($44) or an account for two friends or a couple ($56).
Then you will get 3 extra months of Workaway membership for free.
Also, I want to mention that I am an affiliate of Workaway, which costs you nothing extra but it means that Workaway offers me a small commission for any sign-ups.

How To Continue Getting Free Workaway
Okay, so here comes the second part. Once you’ve signed up, you will then have the option to invite others to Workaway.
If you successfully refer someone to Workaway, then you’ll get 3 extra months of free Workaway!
After you create your Workaway profile, you’ll be able to access your personal invitation link that you can share anywhere.
You can post it on social media or send it via email, texting, WhatsApp – basically, anywhere you can share a website URL.
You can invite both those who want to be a Workawayer or those who want to be a Workaway host.
The only thing to note is that the Workaway host might not be accepted.
Potential Workaway hosts are manually reviewed by the Workaway team before being accepted.
On average, they actually reject over 50% of host applications. This is to help ensure Workaway opportunities are good quality and most importantly safe!
My Advice For Getting A Free Workaway Account
Start inviting people right away. Sometimes people need to think about it for a while before signing up.
It’s also important because you can only invite people while your membership is active. So it’s best to not wait until you’re in your last few months to start inviting others.
When people sign up under your link, they will receive 1 extra month of free Workaway and you will receive 3 extra months of free Workaway.
Referrals continue to accrue – so if you get 4 people to sign up, then you will have a free Workaway account for another year.
On the platform, they do not state that there is a limit to how many referrals you can get.
Theoretically, you could have a free Workaway account for as long as you can get referrals, but that seems too good to be true.
So I contacted Workaway about this directly and they informed me that you can only receive up to 2 years of free Workaway through the invite/referral system.
Workaway’s Official Terms Of Use For Referrals
Your friend or family member needs to sign up and become a paid Workawayer or online host within the validity of your existing membership. If your friend or family member cancels their membership the relevant extension on your account will be revoked. Workaway reserves the right to cancel the offer, extensions or membership at any time and has the final decision in any cases of disputes.
Please note that the extension will only be activated if:
- The person you refer becomes a fully paid Workawayer or online host
- They use the same browser and device to sign up on as the one they used to click your link
- They click your link first before doing so on links provided by others
- The person you refer is not using a VPN or private browsing setting or clears the cookies from their browser
- They do not cancel their membership – this will automatically void the extension
- The new membership takes place within the validity of your existing subscription
Why Use Workaway?
Workaway is a great platform to use if you’re looking to save money, travel slowly, and be immersed in a culture.
By volunteering with work exchanges you get to experience local culture, eat incredible local food, and make amazing connections with both locals and fellow travelers.
If you’ve traveled extensively, you have probably seen a lot of popular tourist sites that are extremely crowded.
From my own experience, I’ve loved seeing those tourist sites because many are famous for good reasons like their natural beauty or important historical significance.
Unfortunately, at the end of my trips I would always feel exhausted from dealing with massive crowds, waiting in long lines, and constantly taking photos to ‘document’ things because I felt like I needed to show the world where I went.
None of these things are necessarily wrong, but I started to think about why I wanted to travel like this.
I was questioning why I had such a ‘fear of missing out’ (FOMO) and what’s the point if I come back tired from my ‘vacation’.
This made me want to start slow traveling, as opposed to the short trips I had been going on.
The biggest thing that was keeping me from staying longer in a destination was not being able to afford accommodation for that length of time.
