Noel, an Irish widower, has been living in southwest France for two decades and loves welcoming guests from around the world.

His home, located on a ridge next to a forest with stunning views of the Pyrenees, is equipped with all modern conveniences, including a spacious kitchen, bathrooms, central heating, WiFi, laundry facilities, a dishwasher, and a coffee machine.

The property also features expansive gardens of about 2 acres and a swimming pool for summer relaxation, along with a sunny terrace for outdoor dining.

Noel is in his eighties and could use some help with daily tasks such as shopping, cooking, gardening, driving, and general housekeeping. DIY skills are a bonus, especially for tending to the trees on the property. While some French language skills would be helpful, Google Translate is a useful tool for communication.

In return for 3.5 hours of work a day, 5 days a week, guests will have their own double room with a private bathroom. All bills and food are included, though meals are only cooked when Noel’s daughter is around.

A minimum stay of three weeks is required, with the possibility of a longer stay if things work out well. A driver’s license is necessary, and having your own vehicle is preferred due to the rural location.

Smoking and pets are not allowed, but it’s important to be comfortable around Noel’s cat.

Noel’s daughter, Shannon, based in the UK, handles applications and will be present to help guests settle in. The family visits regularly, ensuring lively conversations and a warm atmosphere.

The nearest town, Oloron Ste Marie, is just 7.9km away, offering a charming blend of history and natural beauty at the foot of the Pyrenees.

Tasks

Noel needs assistance with daily tasks, including chores, cooking, gardening, driving, and some DIY projects. It would be ideal for a couple who can manage a variety of tasks, though singles are welcome too.

If you’re skilled with trees or power tools, that’s a big plus. Basic French skills or the ability to use Google Translate will be useful, as Noel’s French is limited.

In exchange for 3.5 hours of work a day, 5 days a week, guests will receive a private room with a bathroom. All bills and food are covered, though meals are only prepared when Noel’s daughter is around.

A minimum stay of three weeks is required, with the option to extend if both parties agree. A driver’s license is necessary, and having your own vehicle is preferred due to the remote location. Smoking and pets are not allowed, but being comfortable with Noel’s friendly cat is essential.

Shannon will manage applications and be available to assist guests upon arrival. Regular family visits ensure a vibrant and social environment.

Accommodation

Guests will have their own double bedroom with a private bathroom on the ground floor of the house. Since there are no other bedrooms on this level, guests can enjoy plenty of privacy.

All necessary bedding and towels will be provided, and there is direct access to the garden from this floor.

Location

The nearest train station is Oloron Ste Marie, about a 15-minute drive away. Noel is happy to pick up volunteers from the station.
